Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has expressed surprise that Manchester United did not sign Yves Bissouma.

He said that the midfielder is the best signing of the summer so far in the Premier League.

Tottenham completed a £25million deal to bring in the midfielder from Brighton last month.

The 25-year-old was linked with both United and Arsenal in the past, but Tottenham were the one to seal his signature.

This is as Manchester United has remained quiet in the transfer market, yet to make any signing despite links with a multitude of players.

But Merson wonders why United did not go for Bissouma, adding that the midfielder could even fit in at Liverpool.

“This is an unbelievable coup for Spurs as Yves Bissouma could have played for any of the other top-six sides in the Premier League,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“He’s better than Scott McTominay and Fred, I have no idea why Manchester United didn’t go in for him!

“He runs the show, affects football matches right from the get-go and is an all-round midfielder with quite a bit of Premier League experience under his belt.

“He has been the signing of the summer in the Premier League so far.”
